HASTINGS — After the scattered rain chances over the weekend, a mostly dry weather pattern and gradual warming trend is in store for central Nebraska this week.

Monday will be another pleasant day, with highs only in the mid-80s with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected through the afternoon hours, according to the National Weather Service – Hastings.

Mainly dry weather conditions return Tuesday as an upper-level high pressure expands across the intermountain west and expands eastward.

The influence of the high pressure will be felt in the gradual warming trend that will set in during the week. Above normal temperatures are expected through at least the weekend and possibly the rest of July.

By Wednesday, mid-level temperatures will be warm enough to suppress precipitation development. The heat at the surface will not be overly oppressive but heat index values will begin to reach near the 100s during the coming weekend.

“By the latter half of the weekend the upper level ridge is expected to flatten allowing a couple weak disturbances to brush the local area…but significant rainfall or thunderstorm activity does not appear likely at this time and temperatures should remain solidly above normal,” per NWS Hastings.
