HASTINGS — The heat builds into the area this week with Tuesday looking to be the hottest day of the work week. Highs look to remain in the 90s through the weekend.
An upper-level ridge of high pressure will build across the central United States and will help promote a warming trend throughout the week.
The heat looks particularly bad on Tuesday with heat index values expected to reach 110 degrees southeast of the Tri-Cities during the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service – Hastings.
A cold front will work southeast across the area on Wednesday, but there will be little relief as the highs will reach 92 in the local area.
“The upper-level ridge will quickly build back into the western United States with warmer than normal conditions expected across our forecast area with mainly 90s for highs,” per NWS Hastings.
“Overall, this appears to be a dry and warm set up but can’t rule out an isolated southward moving storm or two. Winds aloft decrease considerably during this time, so organized/severe convection seems unlikely,” per the NWS.
