GRAND ISLAND — Grand Island Police after investigating possible arson at Riverbed Apartments after a fire took place during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 7.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, officers responded to the Riverbed Apartments at Lakeview Circle, at 2:34 a.m., in reference to rubber being set on fire in front of the apartment door.

Arriving on scene, officers contacted the reporting party who stated that their rubber doormat was set on fire, and it spread to the siding adjacent to the apartment’s front door.

The bottom side of the doormat was examined and was covered in a residue of what is presumed to be an accelerant.

At this time the GIPD is treating the investigation as an arson.
