GRAND ISLAND — A woman was arrested after she allegedly attempted to hide drugs in a bathroom trash can following a traffic stop in Grand Island during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 28.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 4:05 a.m., officers observed a Buick Lucerne drive on the curb when going around the roundabout near Wilmer Ave and Old Potash Highway.
The vehicle nearly struck a posted sign when deciding which direction to travel at the last minute.
Officers also noted that a necklace, air freshener and a 3–5-inch pediment was hanging from the rear-view mirror, obstructing the driver’s view.
When a traffic stop was conducted near the Pump and Pantry on Old Potash Highway. A woman passenger would quickly exit the vehicle, claiming she needed to use the restroom.
Officers recognized the woman as Tammy Voight.
Voight would attempt to take all her belongings out of the vehicle, including her dog and drink, to use the restroom, officers noted.
After Voight was in the restroom, officers were advised by the Pump and Pantry staff that they located marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the bathroom trash can.
Officers said Voight was the last and only person to use the restroom after staff cleaned.
It was determined by officers that Voight had attempted to remove, conceal or destroy physical evidence. When she was being placed under arrest, a search of her person revealed a methamphetamine pipe.
Voight was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana – less than one ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia.
