GRAND ISLAND — A man was arrested after police say he struck a bicyclist while on the way to work during the early hours of Friday, Aug. 30.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, a 35-year-old man was riding his bike to work when he was struck by a vehicle and the driver did not stop or render aid. No other reports of the accident had been made.
The cyclist had an injury to their left should, limiting use of the arm without incurring pain.
Officers observed the scene and noted the cyclists red juice drink and container at the scene, along with broken glass consistent with a vehicle’s mirror at 605 S. Stuhr Road.
A vehicle was later located at JBS Swift parking lot with the same red juice on the side of the vehicle and the passenger’s mirror was broken.
“Officers observed broken glass from the mirror inside the vehicle and an impact mark on the window where the mirror had struck the window. The mirror appeared to have been pushed back out to its original position,” per the GIPD.
“Based on the damage to the mirror, the manipulation of the mirror and the glass inside the cab of the vehicle, it was determined the driver would have been aware of striking someone,” the GIPD noted.
The driver was later identified as Adrian Garcia.
According to police, Garcia admitted to being the driver at the time of the accident, but denied knowing he was involved in an accident or that he had struck and injured an individual.
Garcia was arrested for failure to stop and render aid – no serious injury.
