GRAND ISLAND – The Grand Island City Council is meeting in the evening at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 for public hearings in three areas.

The first hearing is for the FY 2024-25 annual single city budget and annual appropriations bill. The second hearing is on the FY 2024-25 general property and Community
Redevelopment Authority tax request. The third hearing is on the FY 2024-25 Parking District No. 2 (Ramp) tax request.

This is a breakdown of the mill levies for the city general and Community Redevelopment Authority (CRA) property request:

City General Property Tax Levy: 2024: 0.275631; 2025 proposed, 0.261049

City General Property Tax Levy for CRA: 2024, 0.017515; 2025 proposed, 0.017086

Total General Property Tax Levy: 2024, 0.293146; 2025 proposed, 0.278135

The City’s FY 2025 property tax request is $12,207,540, and the CRA request is $798,990 for a total request of $13,006,530

This is a summary of some capital improvement projects and equipment purchases for FY2025:

Electric Utility: $21,126,802

Emergency Management Capital: $3,151,000

Fire Department Capital Equipment: $9,507,400 (includes $5,393,721 to construct a new Fire Station No. 3)

Stolley Park parking and road upgrade: $750,000

Replace Skate Park, $900,000

Heartland Public Shooting Park: $345,984.

Jackrabbit Run Golf Course: $394,555.

Replace George Park playground: $150,000.

Ashley Park backstop, accessibility, and drainage improvements: $295,000.

Library capital equipment: $140,000.

Parks capital equipment: $555,993.

Police capital equipment: $3,035,978. Includes $806,479 for 10 new fleet vehicles and motorcycles and $1.9 million for police vehicle storage and training facility.

Public Works capital projects: $21,128,958

Eagle Scout Park trail improvement: $900,000.

Solid Waste: $9,085,000.

Streets capital equipment: $1,062,401.

Wastewater Utility: $,892,157.

Island Oasis renovation, $2 million.

Water utility: $2,125,000.

Total for All Departments: $84,613,728
