BETHANY, OKLA. – The Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm converted two penalty kicks and scored three times in the second half to down Nebraska Kearney, 4-0, Saturday evening in Bethany, Okla.

SNU improves to 2-0 as they beat MIAA foe Newman, 3-0, on Thursday. This was the season-opener for the Lopers; they head to Northwestern Oklahoma State on Labor Day. The Rangers lost to Fort Hays State, 2-1, on Thursday night and battled Newman on Saturday evening.

UNK had three shots in each half but couldn’t find the back of the net. Colorado junior Katie Pagel had the first shot of the game but it was stopped by SNU keeper Gianna Bonnet at the 10:59 mark. Colorado sophomore Kea Barnes and Colorado freshman Sarah Levy also had scoring chances with Bonnet stopping Barnes effort with Levy’s sailing wide left.

Six minutes before the break, UNK was dinged for a foul with junior midfielder Natalie Montanez recording the subsequent PK to make it 1-0 on the scoreboard. In the second half, true freshman forward Bella Morgas took a pass from junior midfielder Karla Ramierez and scored her third goal of the fall at the 52:20 mark. Morgas added another 15 minutes later with the last goal coming via PK in the 78th minute from sophomore midfielder Kenzie Macklin.

Barnes paced the Loper attack with two shots with Lincoln redshirt freshman Rachel Warrick and Kansas freshman Iliana Wurzbacher getting off shots after the break. Finally, Lincoln junior keeper Mackenzie Smith and Lincoln freshman Susie Bovaird combined for four saves.
