HASTINGS — Drier weather will cap off the work week, but a more active weather pattern returns this weekend with showers and thunderstorm activity starting Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the upcoming weekend and first half of next week looks to be much more active with precipitation chances throughout the period.
Models continue to show two or three periods of rain moving north into the area, which could start as early as Saturday morning as a warm front extends across Nebraska and into Iowa/Missouri.
Highs on Saturday will range from the mid-50s to the mid-60s.
Surface low pressure is expected to develop on the east side of the Rockies late Saturday and a cold front associated with this feature will extend northeast through the area and will bring showers and thunderstorms for Sunday and Monday.
The best chances for precipitation will be overnight Saturday night through Sunday morning.
Even with cloud cover present, temperatures are expected to be warmer on Sunday with highs in the mid-60s and low 70s.
“Rainfall may persist Monday night through Tuesday morning as the cold front moves east of the
area, but currently Tuesday afternoon and evening look dry, assuming this weather system does not slow down,” per NWS Hastings.
High temperatures Monday will range from the mid-50s to mid-60s then cooler on Tuesday with highs only in the 50s in the wake of the cold front. Cloud cover will keep temperatures overnight in the mid-40s to low 50s.
“Conditions currently look to be cool and dry for a period around the middle of next week. Model guidance suggests another active period late next week into next weekend, but this is even beyond
our seven-day forecast period so we will see if this pattern holds up,” NWS Hastings states.
