KEARNEY – The UNK Volleyball program set their sights high, and reached their ultimate goal of reclaiming the Division II regular season attendance record.

On Wednesday night, hosting in-state foe Peru State, the University of Nebraska at Kearney volleyball broke the attendance record for a regular season matchup in Division II volleyball with a mark of 4,003.

UNK set the D2 regular standard back in 1996 when 3,520 fans showed up to watch the Lopers battle rival Nebraska-Omaha. That mark held for the next 26 years before Alaska-Anchorage drew 3,888 fans last November in a sweep of Central Washington.

The record comes a week after the Loper Volleyball program attended Volleyball Day in Nebraska, as the event became the largest attending women’s sporting event in world history with 92,003 at Lincoln’s Memorial Stadium.
