LEXINGTON — The final phase of the Lexington East Viaduct project is scheduled to begin this week and last through all of 2025.

According to information shared by the City of Lexington, the final phase of the ongoing project is set to begin Dec. 16. Work on this phase will last until December 2025.

Road 435 will be closed from Road 755 to around 1,000 feet south of Highway 30. This includes the Highway 30 intersection and the Walnut St. intersection, per the public information shared regarding the project.

During the closure of Road 435, traffic south of Highway 30 will be routed west to Plum Creek Parkway/Highway 283. Access to local businesses will be maintained through using newly constructed drives.

The final stage of construction for this phase will include the driving of steel pilings and construction of new bridge abutments. A Mechanically Stabilized Earth wall will follow and will last most of the winter and into the spring, per the public information.

Construction of the overpass structure including the setting of girders and the pouring of concrete will start in the spring of 2025. Highway 30 will be closed for a short period while the girders are being set and traffic will be detoured accordingly, the public information stated.

Once the structure is complete, final grading will be performed along with the construction of storm drainage improvements, paving the remaining section of Road 435 and installing new roadway lighting.

The goal is to have all major work items complete, and the roadway opened to traffic by the end of 2025.
