HUSKER FOOTBALL POSTGAME COMMENTS – HEAD COACH MATT RHULE:

RHULE – COLORADO IS EXPLOSIVE; HAVE TO CORRECT TURNOVERS:

Matt Rhule, Nebraska Football Head Coach, opened his postgame presser Saturday afternoon after the loss to Colorado on his initial thoughts regarding the 36-14 loss…

Nebraska is now 0-2 for the second time under a new head coach, as Scott Frost began his tenure 0-6.

RHULE – SNAP TIMING HAS BEEN OFF; TURNOVERS HAVE TO BE FIXED:

Nebraska Football head coach Matt Rhule said it will take some time to figure out the cause of the fumbled snap issues, but it is an issue that has to be corrected…

Quarterback Jeff Sims now has 37 total turnovers in his career – the most of any active FBS player.

RHULE – SIMS IS STILL QB1; QUARTERBACK NEEDS EVALUATION:

Matt Rhule stated in his postgame presser at Colorado that there isn’t going to be much discussion regarding a change at quarterback after the 36-14 loss…

Rhule added that Sims continues to improve on his turnover rate despite Nebraska being -3 in turnover margin after two games – rating the Cornhuskers at 128th out of 132 FBS teams.

RHULE – STILL BELIEVE WE ARE GOOD TEAM:

Nebraska’s Matt Rhule held his belief in his team during the postgame comments after the Colorado loss…

Rhule’s Huskers hold their first home game at Memorial Stadium on Saturday facing Northern Illinois.

RHULE – ISSUES RESULTING IN FUMBLES:

Matt Rhule, Nebraska Football head coach, was asked what some of the core issues could be resulting in so many fumbles to begin the season…

Nebraska aims to earn their first win of 2023 against Northern Illinois on Saturday.

LOPER FOOTBALL WINS FIRST GAME OF HELD ERA:

Quarterback TJ Davis rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another as Nebraska Kearney got past pesky Northeastern State, 31-17, Saturday night at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium.

This was UNK’s home opener, and they’ll remain at Foster Field next Saturday when Missouri Southern (1-1) comes to town. Kickoff is at 12 p.m.

The Lopers have now beaten the RiverHawks (0-2) six straight times to grab an all-time series lead of 9-4.

HASTINGS COLLEGE FOOTBALL BLOWN PAST BY MORNINGSIDE:

Despite a 21-0 lead early in the contest, Hastings College fought to battle back Saturday afternoon – ultimately falling short as No 4 Morningside blew past the Broncos 55-18.

The Mustangs finished the game with 495 yards of offense compared to 262 for the Broncos.

Hastings is now 2-1 (1-1) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Sept. 16 as Jamestown comes to town with kickoff set for 1:00 pm on Lloyd Wilson Field.

The Huskers fired on all cylinders to a season-best .393 hitting percentage. Six different Huskers had at least four kills, led by Harper Murray’s 10, Merritt Beason’s nine and Andi Jackson’s eight.

UNK VOLLEYBALL GOES UNDEFEATED IN COLORADO SPRINGS:

The 10th-ranked Nebraska Kearney volleyball team moved to 9-0 on the season after sweeping both St. Martin’s, Wash. (-16, -16, -15) and Colorado-Colorado Springs (-22, -17, -17) Saturday in the Springs.

UNK remains undefeated after sweeping both Friday opponents in Colorado Springs as well.

These matches were a part of the UCCS Classic with UNK sweeping Western Colorado and Western Oregon.

Their road swing continues this week with MIAA battles vs. No.  17 Washburn (6-1) and Emporia State (6-2) on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

BRONCOS VOLLEYBALLS DROPS ANOTHER FIVE SET THRILLER:

The Hastings College volleyball team got off to a fast start but couldn’t close the door as Mount Marty came all the way back to upset the Lady Broncos 25-14, 25-21, 15-25, 20-25, 9-15 on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

Hastings falls to 5-5 (0-3) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Sept. 13 hitting the road to take on Midland with first serve set for 7:30 pm in Fremont, NE.

MICHIGAN STATE SUSPENDS HEAD COACH MEL TUCKER:

Michigan State suspended football coach Mel Tucker without pay on Sunday, less than 24 hours after allegations became public in a USA Today report that he sexually harassed activist and rape survivor Brenda Tracy during a phone call last year.

The university hired a Title IX attorney to investigate Tracy’s complaint and the investigation concluded on July 25. A hearing is scheduled for the week of Oct. 5 determine if Tucker violated the school’s sexual harassment and exploitation policy.

Secondary coach Harlon Barnett will serve as the team’s interim coach and former coach Mark Dantonio was named associate head coach while Tucker awaits his fate with the program.

Tucker is in the third year of a $95 million, 10-year contract and if he is fired for cause, the school would not have to pay him what’s remaining on his deal.

TEXAS UP TO No. 4 IN AP TOP 25 POLL:

Texas jumped seven spots to No. 4 in The Associated Press college football poll on Sunday after beating Alabama, and the Pac-12 became just the second conference to place as many as eight teams in an AP Top 25.

Georgia received 55 first-place votes to remain the clear No. 1. Michigan was No. 2, with two-first place votes. No. 3 Florida State received three first-place votes and moved up a spot.

USC moved up a spot to No. 5, while the Big Ten’s Ohio State and Penn State moved to No. 6 and No. 7.
