KEARNEY – The search is ongoing for a fugitive from justice wanted on felony child abuse.
According to an update by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s, on Monday September 11 just before 5 p.m., deputies received a report about a possible sighting of Jacob Ellingson around 145th and Riverdale Road.
Jacob Ellingson, 24, is a fugitive of justice and currently wanted for two counts of felony child abuse.
Deputies with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office along with assistance from the Kearney Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol set up a perimeter and began a search. Assets utilized by those searching included UAV drones from both BCSO and KPD, Kearney Police service K-9’s, FLIR and thermal imaging cameras, and the Nebraska State Patrol Air Wing helicopter.
The search continued into the night and was unsuccessful in locating Ellingson.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office asks for continued thoughts for the family and the young child that remains hospitalized as a result of felonious abuse.
On Friday September 8, at 8: 11 a.m. Kearney Police received a phone call about a one-year-old female child having a hard time breathing being taken to a hospital by private car.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle at a local hospital and meet with the individuals involved. The child was immediately life-flighted to an Omaha hospital.
Kearney Police Investigators worked closely with hospital staff, Doctors, Buffalo County Attorney’s Office and others involved to determine the nature, severity and cause of the child’s injuries, as well as the situation surrounding the injuries.
A thorough and ongoing investigation determined the incident around the injury to the child is criminal in nature.
