LEXINGTON — The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of scammers who are pretending to be deputies on phone calls.

The scammers hope to intimidate people by pretending to be a deputy and say that there is a warrant out for their arrest and then ask for payment over the phone to resolve it.

The sheriff’s office noted that they do not operate this way and will never request payment over the phone.

“If you receive one of these calls, do not provide any personal information and block their number,” the sheriff’s officed stated, “If you’re unsure or concerned, please contact us at 308-324-3011, and we can verify if there is an active warrant for you.”
