GRAND ISLAND – The family of a man murdered March 9, 2023, is suing Fonner Park, the Hall County Livestock Improvement Association, Double Locked Security, and three men and one woman in the case.
Theresa Scherer filed the case Feb. 7 as the personal representative of the estate of Todd Scherer.
The four people named in the case are Logan Hunts Horse, Austin Kelly, Lane Harris, and Logan Ritz. Hunts Horse and Kelly are in prison. Harris was also convicted in the case. Hunts Horse was convicted of killing Todd Scherer, 62, of Lincoln. Hunts Horse’s girlfriend is Logan Ritz.
The lawsuit accuses the Hall County Livestock Authority, Double Locked Security and Fonner Park of negligence and for not making efforts to keep people on the Fonner Park campus safe.
The lawsuit blames Hunts Horse for Scherer’s death. The lawsuit also says that Kelly, Harris, and Ritz were involved in the assault and murder of Scherer.
A specific dollar amount is not sought. The lawsuit requests money for economic damages, funeral expenses, non-economic damages, and general damages.
Hunts Horse was sentenced July 30, 2024, by Hall County District Judge Patrick Lee to 64 to 94 years in prison for second-degree murder and to 24 to 40 years in prison for using a deadly weapon to commit a felony. The sentences are to be served consecutively.
