MERRICK CO. — On Wednesday, Feb. 26, at approximately 2:50 p.m., the Merrick County Sheriffs Office was detailed to a two vehicle injury accident at Highway 14 and L Road in rural Merrick County.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound on Highway 14, struck the rear of a 2023 Ford F150 that was stopped in the traffic lane waiting for another vehicle to turn westbound on L Road.
The driver and sole occupant of the Jeep Cherokee was identified as Natalie Rihanek of Polk County.
The driver of the Ford F150 was identified as Eric Shoemaker of Madison County.
Both drivers were uninjured. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected. Seatbelts were used by both drivers.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was issued a citation.
Assistance at the scene was provided by the Central City Fire Department and the Central City Ambulance.
