KEARNEY — Kearney High School is proud to announce that two senior students, Corey Fields and Emma Harwood, have received national recognition for their outstanding work in ceramic arts at The National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition.
Corey Fields, 12th Grade, earned two prestigious awards for his ceramic work:
• Artistic Merit Award – This award, given by The National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition Foundation Board of Trustees, honors exceptional student artwork. Corey was one of only 12 high school students across the nation to receive this recognition. Awardees receive a certificate and their exhibition label is specially marked to reflect this honor.
• SiO2 Clay Award – 110 lbs – Sponsored by Collett Clays Corporation (SiO-2), this award includes four packets of PRAI White Stoneware clay (110 lbs), valued at $100, to be shipped directly to Kearney High School.
Emma Harwood, also a 12th grader, was selected for two top-tier honors:
• L&L Kiln Awards Grand Prize Student Award – Sponsored by L&L Kilns and valued at $1,685, this award provides Emma with an L&L Plug-n-Fire 120 volt Cone 10 Kiln. In recognition of her guidance and excellence in instruction, Katrina Olmstead, Emma’s art teacher, was also honored with the L&L Kiln Awards Grand Prize Teacher Award.
• Jack Troy Merit Award – Created by renowned ceramicist Jack Troy, this award includes a $100 cash prize in recognition of Emma’s talent and craftsmanship.
The National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition showcases the best student ceramic work from across the United States and is held annually in conjunction with the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conference.
