GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man has been charged with sexual assault of a child after a 15-year-old girl was found to be pregnant.
Tomas Ortiz-Juarez, 37, is charged with first degree sexual assault of a child, a Class 1B felony.
Ortiz-Juarez was arraigned on Tuesday, April 8 and his bail was set at 10 percent of $200,000. A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for May 5 at 2 p.m.
According to an affidavit submitted in Hall County Court, an officer with the Grand Island Police Department was dispatched to CHI Health St. Francis in reference to a sexual assault during the evening of April 7.
The officer contacted a 15-year-old girl who was pregnant and stated that Ortiz-Juarez, her stepfather, has been sexually assaulted her since April 2024, according to the affidavit.
Ortiz-Juarez was booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
