LINCOLN – Nebraska Football could not stay away from the injury bug after their first win in 2023, losing three major contributors during Saturday’s contest against Northern Illinois.

Head Coach Matt Rhule gave an update during his Monday morning press conference:

Running backs Rahmir Johnson and Gabe Ervin are now out for the year as Johnson separated his shoulder, requiring surgery. The injury ultimately ends Johnson’s career as a Husker with the 2023-24 season being his senior year.

The starting back for each contest this season, Gabe Ervin has a dislocated hip and will also be out for the remainder of the season. Both backs had major contributions including Ervin who was the leading rusher on the team.

Dwight Bootle II, a true freshman, had contributed in the NIU contest with two tackles. The younger sibling of former Blackshirt of DiCaprio Bootle, Dwight committed to the Huskers over Indiana, Kansas, and other Midwest programs.
