GRAND ISLAND — A suspect who was arrested in Grand Island for driving under the influence was found in possession of a concealed and loaded firearm on Tuesday, April 15.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, around 8:53 p.m., officers made contacted with Jospeh Dembowski during a traffic stop.

Dembowski was involved in a motor vehicle accident and had fled the scene prior to contact with officers, according to the GIPD.

When officers contacted Dembowski, they noted that he showed signs of impairment. He was also found in possession of a loaded firearm during the stop and did not immediately notify law enforcement.

A driving under the influence investigation was completed and Dembowski was arrested for failure to stop and render aid – no serious injury, driving under the influence – first offense, carrying concealed handgun while under the influence – first offense and carrying concealed – no disclosure – first offense.
