KEARNEY — Kearney firefighters responded to a vehicle fire that took place during the morning hours of Wednesday, April 30.

At 7:02 a.m., the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 519 W. 26th St. for the report of a vehicle which was on fire.

On scene, a Buick LeSabre was heavily smoking from the engine compartment as firefighters arrived on scene. Water was applied to the car before the engine compartment was opened with a few flames emerging.

The engine compartment was doused with water, firefighters also used the hose on the interior as a heavy amount of smoke emerged when the driver side door was open.

Firefighters looked for a way to disconnect the engine, which still appeared to be running amid the fire.

The cause of the fire and any injuries was not available on scene.

The KVFD was assisted on scene by the Kearney Police Department and CHI Health Good Samaritan EMS.
