NEBRASKA FOOTBALL TUESDAY PRACTICE COMMENTS – TONY WHITE:

WHITE – INTERIOR RUN HAS BEEN EXCELLENT:

Defensive Coordinator for Nebraska Football Tony White spoke to the media on Tuesday saying he credits the experience of the defensive line for the Blackshirts ability to slow down rushing attacks this season…

The Huskers have allowed only 43 yards per rushing per contest through three games, good for second in the country.

WHITE – PASS RUSH CONTINUES TO WORK TO IMPROVE:

Nebraska Defensive coordinator Tony White spoke at his Tuesday press conference that his Blackshirts continue to improve to create more opportunities in the pass rush…

Nebraska has fourteen sacks on the season, led by Luke Reimer with 2.5 and three players tied with two each.

WHITE – DEFENSIVE ROTATION BASED ON PHILOSOPHY:

The Blackshirts have had fresh faces in each contest as the defense continues to rotate players repeatedly. Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White added on Tuesday that this is based on his and Rhule’s personal philosophies…

Nebraska has had several key backups receive playing time through the first three games of the season.

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL TUESDAY PRACTICE COMMENTS – MARCUS SATTERFIELD:

SATTERFIELD – NEXT RUNNING BACK IS THE MENTALITY:

Nebraska Offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield spoke to the media on Tuesday and was asked who the next man up for the depleted running back room will be…

The Huskers lost starter Gabe Ervin and his backup Rahmir Johnson to season ending injuries during the NIU contest.

SATTERFIELD – TUESDAY MOST ACTIVE DAY FOR QB SIMS:

Nebraska Offensive Coordinator Marcus Satterfield gave an injury update to former starting quarterback Jeff Sims and how his ankle has progressed since the Colorado contest…

The Huskers continue to state that Sims is the starter on his return, however Heinrich Haarberg will keep preparing as if he is the starter until Sims is prepared.

SATTERFIELD – CANNOT HAVE TWO QBs; HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE:

Nebraska may be facing a quarterback battle as Nebraska Offensive Coordinator Marcus Satterfield addressed the media Tuesday and wouldn’t give a clear distinction between Heinrich Haarberg and Jeff Sims…

Haarberg has been with Nebraska since he committed in 2020, while Sims joined the program with Matt Rhule and the incoming staff over the past offseason.

UNK VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS DOANE AT HOME:

Graduate transfer Jaden Ferguson had 10 kills and hit .588 to help 10th-ranked Nebraska Kearney sweep Doane Monday night at the Health & Sports Center.

This was the start of a four match homestand for the Lopers (11-1). Central Oklahoma (11-1) visits Thursday night followed by Pittsburg State on Friday and Fort Hays State next Tuesday.

14 different UNK players saw action, as the Blue & Gold also rested some starters with a big MIAA week ahead.

LOPER VOLLEYBALL DROPS TO No. 10 IN LATEST COACHES POLL:

The UNK Volleyball team stuck around the Top Ten in this week’s edition of the AVCA Division II Coaches Poll.

UNK (10-1, 1-1) fell from No. 7 last week to No. 10 in this week’s poll after being swept in Topeka, Kans. by now No. 13 Washburn. The Ichabods (8-1) are up from No. 15 in last week’s poll.

UNK continues a four-game homestand Thursday night match against No. 21 Central Oklahoma.

BIG RED VOLLEYBALL UP TO No. 2 IN LATEST POLL; WISCY No. 1:

Nebraska volleyball rose to No. 2 in the latest AVCA poll, while Creighton jumped to No. 11 on Monday.

After three weeks at No. 4, the Huskers moved to No. 2 after defeating two Top 25 teams last week: then-No. 5 Stanford (four sets) and No. 21 Kentucky (four sets). NU also received two first-place votes.

Nebraska has now defeated three ranked teams with the other win coming over Creighton.

The Huskers continue to chase Wisconsin, who will now spend four weeks in the No. 1 spot. No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Stanford and No. 5 Louisville round out the Top 5.

NEBRASKA’S BEASON, MURRAY NAMED BIG TEN POTW:

Merritt Beason was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Harper Murray was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced.

Beason led the Huskers to a 3-1 road win at No. 5 Stanford and a 3-1 home win against No. 21 Kentucky with 4.00 kills per set on a .354 hitting percentage to go with 1.88 digs per set. Beason had a season-high 17 kills and 10 digs and hit .438 in the win over Kentucky.

MICHIGAN STATE INFORMS TUCKER FIRED DUE TO MISCONDUCT:

Michigan State informed suspended football coach Mel Tucker on Monday that he will be fired without compensation for misconduct involving activist and rape survivor Brenda Tracy in a sordid case that dates back more than a year.

If Tucker does not present “sufficient reasons to dispute” multiple contract violations, the school will fire him Sept. 26, three days after the program’s Big Ten opener in what was hoped to be a bounce-back year for the Spartans.

Tucker is in the third year of a $95 million, 10-year contract and if he is fired for cause, the school would not have to pay him what’s remaining on his deal.
