GRAND ISLAND — The Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Nebraska is proud to announce the appointment of Christine Haba as the organization’s new Executive Director, effective May 20, 2025.

Christine, who previously served as Deputy Director, was selected following a unanimous vote by the board.

Christine brings a deep commitment to equity, education, and community-building. A longtime resident of the Tri-City area, she has spent her career advocating for underserved populations across all intersectionalities—including race, ethnicity, ability, and sexuality. Christine Haba additionally serves as Secretary of the YWCA of Grand Island Board of Directors and as Board Chair of Grand Island Citizen Advocacy, Inc. She is also a member of the Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa.

“Christine leads with empathy, integrity, and vision,” said Kathryn Vampola, Board President of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Nebraska. “Her passion for mentorship, youth empowerment, and community collaboration makes her the ideal leader to guide this next chapter of our organization.”

Born in the Philippines and raised in Nebraska, Christine brings a lived experience that informs her leadership style and connection to the families and youth served by Big Brothers Big Sisters. She lives with her family outside of Trumbull and is proud of the home she has made working in Grand Island.

“It’s an honor to lead an organization where mentorship isn’t just a program—it’s a lifeline,” said Haba. “When we pour into connection and community, especially with youth, we don’t just build relationships—we build resilience. That kind of care makes the next generation unstoppable.”

Christine’s appointment signals a renewed focus on equity, belonging, and intentional growth as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Nebraska continues to expand its impact across the region.
