KEARNEY — Severe weather impacted central Nebraska during the afternoon and evening hours of Wednesday, June 25. Strong to severe winds caused tree damage in Kearney and an accident near Elm Creek on Interstate 80 amid the initial storms caused delays and detours.
The initial severe storm that approached Kearney around 3 p.m. seemed to display some supercell characteristics, with a gusting rear flank and semblance of mid-level rotation on radar. However, the wind profile favored mutli-cell clusters. A Flood Watch was in place due to the potential for excessive rainfall on Wednesday.
