KEARNEY — Scattered thunderstorms impacted south central Nebraska during the evening of Thursday, July 10.
The storm approaching Buffalo County and Kearney itself showed outflow dominant structure as it neared the Interstate 80 corridor.
An outflow-dominant thunderstorm is a thunderstorm where the downdraft (cool air spreading out from the storm) is stronger than the updraft (warm air rising into the storm). This usually means the storm is weakening, but the outflow can still produce strong winds and potentially trigger new storms.
