KEARNEY — After accepting a proposal for the next Keno operator in the City of Kearney, the city council approved Keno operations at eight different locations.

On June 24, the Kearney city council accepted the Big Red Keno’s proposal to be the new operator within the community.

On April 1, the city issued a request for Keno operators. The city received proposals from Big Red Keno, Kearney Gaming and Community First Keno.

It was recommended Big Red Keno to become the next operator in Kearney. It was noted they have been operating Keno since 1991 and have 270 keno locations and operate in Omaha, Lincoln, Fremon and Norfolk.

Per the agreement, the City of Kearney and City of Omaha would create a joint Keno lottery operation. The City of Kearney would receive a guaranteed 8.75 percent of gross Keno sales in the community for community betterment. This is a higher percentage than the past agreement.

The eight locations in Kearney which had been submitted for approval included American Legion Post 52, Cellar Sports Bar and Grill, Chicken Coop Sports Bar and Grill, Fanatics Sports Bar and Grill, Jersey’s Sports Bar and Grill, Playpen Lounge, The Crafty Dog Sports Bar and The Dome Lounge and Package store.

In other news, the city council also secured permeant utility easements at two different locations.

The first was a permanent sanitary sewer easement in the Tech One Fourth Subdivision, granted by Travis Solberg, CFO of Butler Machinery Company.

The second was 18 separate easements in the Arbor View Third and Fourth Additions.
