KEARNEY — A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for all of central Nebraska due to fog reducing visibility across the region on Friday, July 25.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the dense fog developed behind a stalled frontal boundary and the advisory has been issued until 10 a.m.
Visibility of one quarter of a mile or less will be possible and contribute to potentially hazardous driving conditions. Drivers are warned to be prepared for rapidly changing visibility within the advisory area.
“If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you,” per NWS Hastings.
Fog forms when water vapor in the air condenses into tiny water droplets or ice crystals, making the air near the ground appear cloudy or hazy.
This condensation typically happens when the air cools to its dew point temperature, or when water vapor is added to the air.
For instance, at 7:30 a.m., the temperature and dewpoint in Kearney were both 69 degrees.
