ELM CREEK — A semi-truck driver was able to escape injury after their vehicle caught fire near Elm Creek during the early morning of Tuesday, July 29.
According to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and the Elm Creek Fire and Rescue members responded at 2:30 a.m. to a commercial semi-truck that had caught fire two miles west of Elm Creek.
The entire cab quickly was consumed by the fire, but the driver was able to disconnect the tralier and escaped before ethe fire reached the cab. There were no injuries.
The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office extended thanks to the volunteer firefighters, “Keep in mind—these volunteer firefighters were at home, asleep, when the call came in. They left the comfort of their beds, raced to the station, and headed into the dark to stop this fire. And after all that? Most of them went straight to their regular jobs in the morning.”
“Here in Buffalo County, every fire department—Elm Creek, Pleasanton, Amherst, Riverdale, Ravenna, Miller, Shelton, Gibbon, and Kearney—is made up of volunteers. They show up, day or night, not for pay or recognition, but because they care about their neighbors. We’re fortunate to work alongside some of the most dedicated crews around,” per the BCSO.
