KEARNEY — Central Nebraska was treated to a unique atmospheric phenomena during the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 6, wave clouds entering in succession one after another.

The cloud sequence originated from a large thunderstorm complex that was ongoing across eastern Nebraska during the morning hours. The downdraft from the complex aided in pushing the wave clouds southwest, which crossed across the region.

The clouds could clearly be seen on weather satellite images, with at least five separate wave clouds clearly separated from each other. Locally, the clouds would appear on the horizon before closing in, a cool wind would pick up ahead of them.

The sun would be blocked out momentarily while the clouds passed. After one’s passage, the other could be seen on the horizon, while the departing one continued southwest.
