The first three innings of Wednesday’s Kearney/Grand Island softball game didn’t have much momentum, but then the Islanders took charge in the middle innings, winning 7-2 over the Bearcats. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay from Alex Hammeke.

Grand Island would score one run in the fourth inning, followed by three runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings. Kearney would score runs in the sixth and seventh innings after finally being able to catch their stride late in the contest.

 

Lauren Schmeits was the only Bearcat to collect multipe hits, going 2-3 with a run scored. Jordan Felker scored the other run for Kearney, in the sixth inning.

 

Raygan Hoos led the Islanders, going 3-5 with two triples. Aysha Gawrich and Braelyn Sindelar each having a double.  Hoos, Sindelar, and Briannah Kutschkau would all score twice, with Gawrich adding another run.

 

Alex Hormann earned the win in the circle for the Islanders, allowing two earned runs in a complete game in the circle and striking out seven.

 

Avery Longshore picked up the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) in 4.2 innings. Ava Magnani came in relief and allowed three runs in the final 2.1 innings of work. The duo retired eight batters.

 

Grand Island improves to 9-20, and will compete next in the HAC Tournament.

 

The Bearcat softball team now sits at 9-17, and will face Lincoln Southeast Thursday.
