Update: At 2:54 p.m., Gibbon Public Schools posted, “The SECURE has ended. A person of interest is in custody. Law Enforcement remains on campus. School will be dismissed at the normal time. Buses run accordingly.”
GIBBON — Gibbon Public Schools entered SECURE status, “out of an abundance of caution” during the early afternoon hours of Thursday, Sept. 18.
Around 12 p.m., Gibbon Public Schools (GPS) stated on social media that out of an abundance of caution, the district was going to SECURE status. During this time, the outside doors were locked, and no one was permitted to enter or exit.
At 1:46 p.m., it was stated that the district remained in SECURE status and that students and staff will remain inside the building. In addition, it was reported that area law enforcement was on site.
“We plan to send more information later this afternoon/evening.” according to GPS.
Calls and a message were left with the Gibbon Public School’s office but were unreturned at the publishing of this article.
