Kearney Area Community Foundation, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)

KEARNEY — The Kearney Area Community Foundation recently awarded a total of $7,500 in “Building for Tomorrow” grants to eight local nonprofits.

  • Crossroads Center Inc. received a grant for their Food Recovery Program, which provides meals and food boxes for those in need in the community.
  • Kearney Community Sustainable Housing received a grant to help create a wraparound educational program for residents.
  • Kearney Public Schools Foundation received a grant for music and music holders to use during the Parade of Heroes Veterans Ceremony in Washington, D.C. and beyond.
  • Nebraska Diaper Bank received a grant for supplemental diaper supplies for local families experiencing a need.

Salvation Army received a grant for the Holiday Hunger Assistance program, which provides gift cards to families in need so they can prepare and enjoy a traditional holiday dinner together.

Since its inception in 1995, the Kearney Area Community Foundation has granted more than $85 million to local organizations through scholarships, grants and program support, serving a wide variety of community needs.

The “Building for Tomorrow” endowed fund typically grants to projects or programs in the Kearney area and surrounding communities. Grants are made to nonprofit, federally tax-exempt 501(c)(3) qualified organizations, or organizations delivering a project or program which have a fiscal relationship with a qualified charity.

Applications are accepted on a bi-annual basis with the next “Building for Tomorrow” grant cycle on February 1, 2026. Organizations are encouraged to read the grants guidelines by visiting www.kearneyfoundation.org/building-for-tomorrow to determine if their organization qualifies and to apply in the coming months.
