Former State Senator Julie Slama announced Monday that she is running for State Treasurer in 2026.
She previously represented Legislative District 1 (Nebraska City, Auburn, Palmyra, Falls City) from 2019 to 2025. She chaired the Legislature’s Banking, Commerce, and Insurance committee. The Nebraska Examiner reported that Slama was one of ten candidates to apply for the position of State Treasurer when John Murante resigned. Governor Jim Pillen later appointed Albion’s Tom Briese to the position.
She stated on her campaign website, “Nebraskans deserve a leader who will work tirelessly to deliver conservative wins. As your next State Treasurer, I’ll defend Nebraskans’ conservative principles, ensure your hard earned tax dollars are spent and invested wisely, and stand up to government waste, fraud, and abuse.”
She went on to say, “Under my watch, our tax dollars will never go towards radical liberal investments. We’ll focus on growing our economy, helping Nebraskans thrive, and ensuring the Treasurer’s Office operates with strong fiscal conservative leadership.”
The GOP Primary is on May 12, 2026. Current State Treasurer Tom Briese has not announced whether he will run for the position.
