GRAND ISLAND. – Shane Brethour, 23, of Grand Island was arrested at 9:59 p.m. Nov. 5 at an apartment in north central Grand Island for charges including felony first-degree imprisonment involving a 23-year-old female.

Brethour was also arrested for two counts of misdemeanor sexual assault; misdemeanor negligent child abuse; felony terroristic threats; and misdemeanor assault to cause bodily injury to a person.

According to Grand Island Police Department Division Chief Dean Elliott, a woman with a disability lives at the apartment. The 23-year-old female assists her as a caregiver.

Brethour came to the apartment and put a couch behind the front door. He then pushed the 23-year-old woman to the ground. He bit her twice through her clothes in sexual areas on her body. He later bit her on her arm. A child in the apartment appeared, and the 23-year-old woman went to the bathroom and tried to call 911.

Brethour intervened before she could complete the call. Because of distractions from children in the apartment, the 23-year-old woman was able to move the couch and exit through the front door. Neighbors heard noise coming from the apartment and had called 911, Elliott said. A police officer was in the area and responded to the scene.
