HASTINGS — Seasonably warmer weather continues throughout the work week with potential record highs for Friday, Nov. 14.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, “spectacular” fall weather including above normal temperatures, plentiful sunshine and light winds will continue throughout the end of the week.

After a mild night across the region, this will allow for rapid warming in the morning hours with full sunshine and light winds marking another pleasant day outside.

With an upper-level ridge of high pressure across the western United States shifting slowly east over the next few days, very mild fall weather will be in place across the region.

Temperatures will peak on Friday afternoon as the apex of the ridge crosses the central Plains.

“As a result, temperatures for Friday afternoon have crept into record territory, with the record high temperatures for both Hastings and Grand Island now in jeopardy. current records are 74 degrees in 1990 and 71 degrees in 2001,1990, respectively for Nov. 14,” per NWS Hastings.

The ridge will begin to weaken and push farther east on Saturday in response to a cold front and upper-level trough of low pressure that will be pushing across the northern Plains. Saturday will still be mild as the surface front won’t cross the region until later in the day.

The front will be dry and seasonable cool air will follow in its wake for Sunday, before another upper-level low pressure area moves up from the southwest and brings an increase in cloud cover and precipitation to the area.

This system looks to be fairly mild, with cool rain possible to start the next work week on Monday. Models are hinting that a cooler and more unsettled weather pattern could hold until Thanksgiving.
