GRAND ISLAND – Grand Island police arrested Jesus Lopez, 18, of Grand Island after a hit-and-run accident early Nov. 15 at West 13th St. and North Cedar Street.
After the hit-and-run accident was reported, a police officer located a vehicle matching the description, according to Grand Island Police Division Chief Dean Elliott.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, and the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. The officer did not pursue the vehicle.
The officer then observed the vehicle hit another vehicle. A short time later, another officer saw the vehicle, which fled from the scene. The vehicle then hit a tree, and the driver was arrested, Elliott said.
Lopez was arrested for felony operating a vehicle to avoid arrest, two misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, misdemeanor no operator’s license, an infraction for drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor second-offense DUI.
