HASTINGS — Highs will reach into the mid-60s for parts of central Nebraska on Tuesday, this will be followed by a cool down and chance for light snow on Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, a pleasant day is expected on Monday, Dec. 8 as temperatures climb above normal this afternoon into the 40s and 50s.
“Highs will range from the mid/upper 40s east of Highway 81, to the low 50s around the Tri-Cities, with southwestern portions of the area nearing 60 degrees. West-southwest winds gusting
20-25mph are possible this afternoon. Lows tonight will be in the mid to upper 20s,” per NWS Hastings.
Warmer weather is in store for Tuesday as highs will reach the mid-50s in the east and mid-60s in the west. Due to the drop in relative humidity, there could be some elevated fire weather concerns west of Highway 183 on Tuesday afternoon.
A cold front will push into the region Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and cause temperatures to return to climatological norms.
A weak system will progress through the overall northwesterly flow and this could bring some light snow as early as Wednesday afternoon but more likely into Wednesday evening.
There is only a 20 to 40 percent chance of light snow with less than an inch of accumulation across central Nebraska.
“The atmospheric pattern remains active through the end of the week and into next week with roller coaster temperatures as a series of clipper systems move through the area, though there remains a fair amount of spread in model guidance,” per NWS Hastings.
The coming weekend looks to be cold and dry, however, model spread of 20 degrees in temperature does not lend much confidence this far out in the forecast early in the week, NWS Hastings noted.
