GRAND ISLAND – Attendees could choose from 6,300 cookies at the annual G.I. Area Habitat for Humanity Cookie Walk in the afternoon Dec. 14 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Ashley Parra, outreach coordinator for Habitat for Humanity, said that approximately 100 people baked cookies for the event. People could purchase cookies at $10 per pound.
“One hundred percent of proceeds directly go toward building costs,” Parra said.
Volunteers began placing cookies Dec. 13 in geometric patterns on three sections of banquet tables that stretched the length of the church’s Family Life Center, which is similar in size to a gym.
“We love to do this because of how community centered it is,” Parra said. “It gets everybody excited and involved with our mission. We appreciate everyone who comes out and supports us one way or another,” she said.
Each person attending the event received a Styrofoam container and a plastic glove to wear when selecting cookies. People could then browse the cookies on the tables and select the ones they wanted.
