KEARNEY — Trails & Rails Museum is proud to host Declaration 1776: The Big Bang of Modern Democracy, a traveling exhibition from the prestigious Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

This compelling exhibit explores the revolutionary impact of the Declaration of Independence and its enduring influence on democratic movements around the world.

When the Declaration of Independence was issued in 1776, its assertion that “all men are created equal” challenged centuries of political tradition. More than a statement of separation from Great Britain, the Declaration ignited an open-ended movement toward equality and self-determination that continues to shape modern history. Nations across the globe have since modeled their own declarations of independence on this foundational American document.

Using powerful primary sources, Declaration 1776 illustrates how Americans—and people worldwide—have drawn inspiration from the Declaration in their ongoing pursuit of freedom, civil rights, and representative government. Visitors will gain a deeper understanding of how one bold document helped launch modern democracy and continues to resonate nearly 250 years later.

This traveling exhibition aligns with ongoing efforts to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States and invites visitors to reflect on the Declaration’s legacy, its promises, and its continued relevance in today’s world.
