GRAND ISLAND – A Grand Island business owner has been sentenced to 270 days in jail for three counts of misdemeanor third-degree assault for incidents that took place at his business.
District Court Judge Patrick Lee also sentenced Terry Rawlings, 71, of 518 S. Clay St. on Dec. 9 to two years probation, a $1,500 fine, and 240 hours of community service. He was also ordered to participate in counseling. The incidents took place between Jan. 1, 2024, and Jan. 11, 2025.
Rawlings is the owner and operator of TA Latino Check Cashing.
Rawlings was originally charged with felony third-degree sexual assault on an 11-year-old child for incidents that took place between July 2017 and July 2020. He was also charged with six counts of misdemeanor third-degree sexual assault involving four women who were employees for incidents that occurred between Jan. 1, 2024, and Jan. 11, 2025.
Rawlings pleaded guilty on Aug. 4 to three counts of misdemeanor third-degree sexual assault. The remaining charges against him were dismissed.
According to a January 2025 warrantless arrest probable cause statement:
On Jan. 10, 2025, Grand Island police interviewed a woman about sexual assaults. While being interviewed, Terry Rawlings, came behind her and touched her buttocks, which was unwanted by the female. This took place in front of police officers. The woman stated that there were other women that Rawlings had sexually assaulted. Multiple females came to the Police Department and made reports. One of the victims was only 11 years old when she was sexually assaulted at his business.
