GRAND ISLAND – Grand Island real estate agent Jimmy Reed, 36, filed for Grand Island mayor at 10:03 a.m. Jan. 14.
The other candidate who has filed for mayor is Grand Island City Council President Ryan O’Neill. Mayor Roger Steele has not said whether he intends to file for re-election.
Reed works as a real estate agent for Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices/Day-Ly Realty.
Reed posted this on his Facebook page Jan. 10:
“I’ve spent countless hours listening to people across our community. The talented individuals who serve our city deserve hope and a renewed culture. Our businesses deserve to be heard and actively sought. The future of Grand Island depends on our ability to come together. I truly love OUR town. Go G.I.,” Reed wrote.
A number of other people have filed for office with the Hall County Election Commissioner’s Office:
*Jack Sheard, 47, filed Jan. 6 for Ward 1 on Grand Island City Council. He is an incumbent.
*Jason Conley, 48, filled Jan. 8 for Ward 3 on Grand Island City Council. He is an incumbent.
*Mitch Nickerson, 68, filed Jan. 14 for Ward 4 on Grand Island City Council. He is an incumbent.
*Doug Lanfear, 75, filed Jan. 7 for Ward 5 on Grand Island City Council. He is an incumbent. Lindsey Jurgens has also filed for the position.
*Phil Wieck, 36, filed Jan. 13 for District 7 on the Hall County Board of Commissioners. Commission Chairman Ron Peterson currently represents that district.
*Marla Conley, 75, filed Jan. 7 for Hall County Clerk. She is an incumbent and is a Republican.
*Alaina Verplank, 44, filed Jan. 7 for Hall County Treasurer. She is an incumbent and is a Republican.
*Jennifer Poppen, 63, filed Jan. 7 for Hall County Clerk of the District Court. She is an incumbent and is a Republican.
