HASTINGS — Wind chills will plummet to negative 15 to 25 degrees across central Nebraska during the morning of Friday, Jan. 23. Arctic air will linger over the region throughout the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, a cold front brining northerly winds will push through the region on Thursday. High temperatures during the day will be mainly in the 30s.
The cold front will continue moving south with temperatures dropping into the single digits. Wind chills of around negative 10 to 25 degrees will be possible Thursday night into Friday morning.
“The cold air will continue to impact the area with high temperatures on Friday ranging only from the single digits to teens. Winds will become more southerly Friday night with low temperatures in the negative single digits,” per NWS Hastings.
Wind chills Friday night will plummet into the negative 20-to-25-degree range in some spots.
There is some uncertainty with high temperatures on Saturday and it will depend upon the location of an area of surface high pressure. At the moment, highs are expected to be around 10 to 17 degrees.
NWS Hastings says that cold weather headlines will be likely for Friday into the weekend.
There is a possibility for light snow on Friday and Saturday, the areas most favored to see any accumulation will be along and south of the Nebraska-Kansas state line.
Any snow accumulation could be further enhanced by the arctic air and result in temperatures and wind chills being colder than the current forecast.
