GRETNA — Buc-ee’s, the popular gas station chain, is planning to build their first location in Nebraska at Gretna.

The Gretna city council met on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and approve a request to annex 43 acres located southeast of Interstate 80 and Highway 31.

The Nebraska Examiner reported that a 74,000 square foot store with 100 gas pumps would be built on this track of land, if all goes to plan.

The Buc-ee’s chain was founded in 1982 in Clute next to Lake Jackson and established its first travel center in Luling, south of Austin, Texas, in 2003. The chain has also become well known for the cleanliness of its bathrooms and its mascot.

The chain is popular especially compared with other gas stations because of its large, loyal base of frequent customers.

The company began expanding outside of Texas in 2018.

As of July 2025, Buc-ee’s has 54 active locations across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Colorado, Texas, and Virginia.
