KEARNEY – The Kearney cross country programs hosted the Heartland Athletic Conference Championship meet at the Kearney Country Club on Thursday afternoon, with teams from Lincoln, Fremont, Norfolk, and Columbus coming to compete.

The Bearcats girls team ended at third overall, while the boys finished ninth. Grand Island was sixth for both the boys and girls.

Kearney’s Abigail Burger ended third overall, running a time of 19:14.32. The top finishers went to Lincoln East, running Mia Murray and Peyton Svehla at 18:34 and 19:06 respectively. East would dominate the meet, ending with five runners in the top ten.

Fremont won the boys side of the meet with three runners in the top ten and five within the top twenty. Kearney’s top finisher, Zach Petzet, ran a 17:01.05 finishing 21st. Grand Island’s Kaden Boltz was eleventh at 16:36.99.
