HUSKER FOOTBALL WINS IN CHAMPAIGN:

Nebraska’s physicality kept Illinois to 21 yards of rushing offense, as the Matt Rhule era earned its first road win and first Big Ten victory over Illinois on a windy Champaign Friday night, 20-7.

The Huskers are now 3-3, with a 1-2 record in the Big Ten West.  Nebraska is off on a bye week this week, before hosting Northwestern on October 21. Illinois drops to 2-4 and travels to Maryland next week.

A full recap can be found at KGFW and Central Nebraska Today.

Kearney Catholic suffered their second loss of the year at Ord, dropping the contest 34-20. The Stars are back in district play hosting Centura on Friday night.

LOPER VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS GRIFFONS; HOSTS NORTHWEST:

The ninth-ranked Nebraska Kearney volleyball team won the serve game and had four players between 11 and 12 kills to sweep Missouri Western Friday night at the Health & Sports Center.

The Lopers (16-1, 6-1) will visit the Griffons (12-5, 5-3) on Nov. 4. UNK has now won 11 straight in the series, dating back to Nov. 2017.

A young Griffs squad swept No. 19 Washburn in Topeka last month and was coming off a 3-1 win Thursday at Hays. That was their fifth straight win, but they were out hit tonight by a .317-.184 margin.

UNK hosts Northwest Missouri State (9-6, 4-3) Saturday at 3 p.m.

UNK FOOTBALL FACES FAMILIAR FACE IN WARRENSBURG:

The UNK Football team will face an old coach in his new home today, heading to No. 21 Central Missouri for an MIAA battle in Warrensburg, Missouri.

The Lopers (2-3) look for a key win to even their record while Central Missouri (4-1) leads their high-flying aerial attack to continue their trend to the top of the conference.

Kickoff is set for 1 PM.

HASTINGS COLLEGE EARNS HOME SWEEP:

TOMINAGA SELECTED ALL-BIG TEN PRESEASON:

Nebraska senior guard Keisei Tominaga was honored Friday morning, as the Big Ten Conference announced its preseason All-Big Ten team.

Tominaga was one of 10 players selected by a vote of media that cover Big Ten basketball. He becomes just the third Husker to be named preseason All-Big Ten since Nebraska joined the conference in 2011-12, joining James Palmer Jr. (2018) and Terran Petteway (2014).

Last season, Tominaga helped the Husker post their best conference record since 2017-18, as Nebraska finished 9-11 in a league which sent 11 of its 14 teams to postseason play.
