KEARNEY — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Interstate 80 corridor in central Nebraska, while a Winter Storm Advisory has been issued for parts of north central Nebraska.
The National Weather Service – Hastings has issued the Winter Weather Advisory for York, Buffalo, Dawson, Hall and Hamilton counties from 6 a.m. to midnight on Thursday, Feb. 19.
In addition, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Greely, Nance and Valley counties. NWS North Platte has issued the same for Custer County and a large swath of the Sandhills.
In the advisory area, total snow accumulation is expected to be between three to five inches with northly winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
Snow is expected to increase in coverage this morning, peak this afternoon and early evening and then will decrease overnight.
For the warning area, “the band of heaviest snow amounts of 4-6 inches may only be 40-60 miles wide, so even small adjustments in forecast track could mean big swings in forecast totals,” per NWS Hastings.
The hazardous conditions, including slippery roads, could impact the Thursday afternoon and evening commutes. Gusty northerly winds could lead to areas of blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility, NWS Hastings noted.
Another round of much lighter snow is possible in central and southern areas Friday night.
