The Nebraska Keraney tennis teams split with the Rockhurst University Hawks Sunday at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

The Loper men (6-2) won by a 6-1 score while the women (2-3) fell to RU, 5-1.

In the men’s dual, UNK took the doubles point thanks to wins at one and two. The pair of junior Tom van den Dungen (Netherlands) and freshman Ilan Fuentes (France) won 6-4 at two to decide things. While the Lopers swept three singles matches and won another by retirement, 35th-ranked Andy Brisdon (U.K.) and sophomore Ivan Melnik (Germany) both had to work hard to win at one and two. Brisdon won his final two sets (-4, -3) with Melink bouncing back from a 6-4 loss in set two by taking third with a similar score.

On the women’s side, senior Clare Plachy (Lincoln Pius X) won in straight sets at three singles to tally UNK ‘s lone point. The Hawks won four singles matches in straight sets and swept all three doubles battles.

UNK remains home next Friday (Feb. 27) to face the St. Mary’s (Texas) Rattlers.
