KEARNEY — The Buffalo County Commissioners held a moment of silence and recognized Kellie John, the Register of Deeds, who died on Saturday, Feb. 21.
John, 71, died following a battle with cancer. She was in her seventh term as the Register of Deeds, having first been elected in 1999. She had been an employee with Buffalo County for over 52 years.
The commissioners describe John as a long-time public servant who took great pride in Buffalo County and its citizens.
Mass of Christian Burial for John will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with Archbishop – Designate James R. Golka as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Kearney Cemetery.
During their meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 24, the commissioners appointed Deputy of the Register of Deeds Jen Schleusener to fill the role until the end of the current term on Jan. 7, 2027.
