HASTINGS — Rain showers, along with an isolated thunderstorm, are possible this afternoon. Precipitation could transition to snow flurries overnight.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, rain showers will be possible, 15 to 40 percent, starting this afternoon. There is also the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm or two, 10 to 10 to 20 percent, where higher lapse rates are present.

The Storm Prediction Center does include central Nebraska in a marginal risk for sub-severe storms this afternoon.

Chances of rain increase into the evening, 50 percent, there are some model differences regarding the timing of the showers.

“Some show the rain moving in from the northwest around midafternoon while others show the rain moving in during the early evening hours. Due to the differences in timing, some of the rain showers may linger into the overnight hours tonight as they move southeastward,” NWS Hastings stated in a forecast discussion.

Prior to the rain chances, there will be near critical fire weather conditions this afternoon, especially across the western parts of the forecast area as humidity drops around 25 percent and higher wind gusts, 20 to 30 mph.
