CALLAWAY — An 81-year-old Callaway man was killed as the result of a rollover accident in Custer County during the evening hours of Wednesday, Feb. 25.
According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, at 6:44 p.m., deputies responded to Rye Valley Road, west of Callaway, due to the report of an automated crash detection alert.
On scene, deputies located a single vehicle that had been involved in a rollover crash.
Deputies located Marland J. Peterson, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation found the vehicle was traveling southbound on Rye Valley Rd. when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle entered the west ditch of the roadway, where it overturned and ejected the driver.
Peterson was bound to not be wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
