GRAND ISLAND — Grand Island Central Catholic broke open a tight game with a decisive 14-3 run spanning the third and fourth quarters on the way to a 51-38 win over Adams Central in the Class C-1, Subdistrict 9 final Thursday night.

Top-seeded GICC (21-5), ranked No. 3 by the Omaha World-Herald, found its rhythm from long range in the second half, hitting 5 of 8 from beyond the arc and finishing 7 of 18 overall.

Crusader Braylon Wolfe led all scorers with 13 points, while Thomas Birch and Conner Haney each posted double-doubles. Birch finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds and Haney added 10 points and 10 boards.

Adams Central (15-9) hung with the Crusaders early, leading 11-9 after the first quarter and heading into halftime tied at 20. Brodie Luksan scored 11 points to pace the Patriots, who briefly regained the lead at 28-27 on Luksan’s 3-pointer with 3:52 left in the third.

From there, GICC seized control. The Crusaders’ 14-3 surge pushed the margin into double digits, where it stayed for most of the fourth quarter.
